Sfogliando il taccuino di viaggio- Leafing through the sketchbook

E' bellissimo rifare il viaggio in Nuova Zelanda attraverso le pagine del taccuino.
Tornano in mente le sensazioni, l'umidità, i canti degli uccelli,il sole, le tante novità e osservazioni.
Molti disegni sono stati finiti qui, e ancora tanti ce ne sarebbero da fare.
La selezione e l'impaginazione sono fasi talvolta crudeli- cosa lascio fuori? cosa valorizzo?...ma lo stesso discorso si pone quando si vuole raccontare ogni lunga storia per immagini.
Quando, dopo il viaggio in Namibia, avevo voluto dipingere e condividere la meraviglia della natura africana in una mostra, quello che poi sono riuscita a produrre è stato un quinto di ciò che avrei voluto.
Conta molto  la "densità" emozionale che si trasmette, più che la quantità.
Spero di potervi trasmettere, un po' per volta, i 23 giorni in questa giovane nazione ...sorprendente, bellissima e civilissima.

It's lovely to retrace the trip to New Zealand through the pages of my sketchbook. I recall  feelings, humidity, birdsong, sunshine, novelties and observations.
Many sketches have been ultimated at home, and many more should follow.
The phase of selection and lay-out can be critical: what do I leave out? what should I underline?... but the same happens every time you want to tell a story through pictures.
When, after the trip to Namibia, I'd decided to share my wonder of Africa with an exhibition, the outcome was a fifth of what I'd wanted to paint.
But more than the quantity, what counts is the emotional "density" that you convey.
I do hope to share with you, little by little, my 23 days spent in this young nation...surprising, beautiful and highly civilized.
