Un altro anno...Another year...

"Sono una farfalla", gouache su carta colorata. "I'm a butterfly", gouache on tinted paper.

The years begin, the years come to an end; and we go on measuring time, which is really circular, and infinite.
The picture, that I painted some years ago, illustrated a chinese poem, where the poet dreams to be a butterfly. My wish is that we all, while time goes on, learn to be lighter, and never stop having dreams.

Ricetta per chiudipacco artistico fai-da -te; recipe for home-made arty gift tags

Far asciugare.

Auguri!

Today, incredibly, I haven't been working, so I had fun solving the gift tag problem.
This is what you need:
a sheet of robust, fine-grain paper; a board larger that the sheet; colours, water, and a brush; scotch; a cutter; a ruler, a pencil.
Firstly you fix the sides of the paper on the board with the scotch tape, to keep it smooth ; then you paint wildly all over it, using your sense of colour but leaving some white to show; when dry, you cut the edges with the scotch away and turn the paper round. You divide it into regular rectangles, using pencil and ruler, and cut along all the horizontal lines. Next step is cutting along every other line, the first one you need for folding the tag in two.
There it is-cheap, original and pretty nice-looking!
Best wishes!

Un periodo intenso

Lavoro, lavoro e ancora lavoro.

Enjoy!

Work, work, and work again , until late in the evening, until my eyes are reddened. Focused on a project  rendering atmospheres half-way between enchanted and realistic, that will be in print - and postable on this blog- only end of jan. 2011.
I'm not at all happy.
I hoped today would be the end of mr. B. I hoped not to be represented anymore by this priapic phallocrat, with his ridiculous jokes, his embarrasing gaffes and friendship with criminal dictators.
Not that I have high hopes in the opposition, but "the style is the thing", quoting Croce ( a myraculous remnant of school years), and this government has proved it.
I'm not happy, since Cancùn too has failed, and part of this beautiful planet, and a lot of its natural and human culture and balance, are preparing to drown.
And lately I've had no time for my art, and I would have loved to paint something new, or at least post something on the Carriola...
What can I do to lift up the spirits?
Art can offer a way out or zen concentration. Anyway, beauty helps.
Here is an artistic picture of a natural masteerpiece, in Assekret. Nerina, my sister- friend who's a hermit nun in New Zealand, sent it to me some time ago.
Enjoy!

Saturday morning I left for Vico d'Elsa, in Tuscany, to assist to the opening of Anne Shingleton's new studio gallery. The place has been wonderfully prepared and lit up , and the many works- mainly oil bozzetti but also the new monotypes and the impressive bronze sculptures- stand out for colours, the diversity of subjects and the mastery in execution. Undaunted by the sharply cold weather and the position of the place, many were the visitors who came and enjoyed the show, and even five of us from Rome.
I spent all sunday afternoon and today having to re-scan and prepare the first four images for my new job, following Alssandro's expert's advice. I'm so tired...
