un bel sabato- a good saturday

Ieri sono andata col mio amico Alessandro e il mio Swarovski al Parco del Circeo. Ero veramente felice di passare una giornata all'aperto, con il tempo buono, temperatura mite, e la possibilità di disegnare!
I risultati non sono esaltanti ma non mi importa. C'erano tanti uccelli a Cicerchia, a Fogliano e anche al mare, ma il vento che si è alzato ha portato una certa agitazione, e mentre le pavoncelle correvano qui e li, la spatola e la garzetta curavano le penne nuziali freneticamente, e i fenicotteri iniziavano il display. C'è decisamente aria di primavera.
Sul mare ho dipinto velocemente lo spettacolo delle onde in controluce, e i gabbiani comuni sulla riva , mentre Ale ha individuato delle sule giovani, quindi nere, che con i loro tuffi spettacolari pescavano al largo.Era difficile disegnare mentre il vento sbatacchiava le pagine dell'album, mannaggia a me che dimentico sempre le pinze!

Yesterday I finally spent a lovely day out with my friend Alessandro and my Swarovski telescope.
We went to the Park of Circeo, rich in waters and just by the sea. Many were the birds and species, but very restless because of the wind and the atmosphere of approaching spring. Temperatures are very mild, and the egret and spoonbill were frantically preening their nuptial feathers, while flamingoes were beginning to display.My only option was to produce very quick and incomplete sketches of the restless birds. It was also difficult to paint by the sea because the wind buffeted the pages of my sketchbook, and I'd forgotten to bring clips! But I don't mind if the results are not super.

"Alba", acquerello e gouache- "Dawn", watercolour and gouache 

Il villaggio è ispirato a uno studio di Anguillara sul Lago di Bracciano, realizzato in barca. La pianta è un helianthus, il fiore del topinambur. La sensazione che volevo comunicare è quella dell'arrivo della luce al mattino.

The village is drawn from a watercolour study I produced in a dingy, looking at Anguillara on Lake Bracciano. The flower is Helianthus. I wanted to convey the feeling of light appearing at daybreak.

Oggi ho visto le prove di stampa dei biglietti su cui ho lavorato questi ultimi 2 mesi per Quadrifogliomania. Tranne qualche sfumatura, sono contenta e posso togliere il velo sulle immagini, perché stanno già circolando - e vendendo ai negozianti...
Ne pubblicherò una al giorno, e poi ne farò una pagina a parte.

Today I saw the print proofs of the greeting cards I have been working on for the last two months for Quadrifogliomania. I am quite satisfied, and I can start revealing the images, since they're already going round - and selling to shopkeepers...I'll publish one a day and I will await for your comments.

Tecnicamente l'immagine è composta da tre diversi disegni: l'arco, la pianta e lo scenario, montati accuratamente in Photoshop. Ho anche lavorato su tre carte diverse: una carta scadente per l'arco, in modo da ottenere più macchie possibili per rendere l'effetto materico; F4 per la pianta perchè sirendono bene i dettagli; e la bellla carta Artem di Fabriano, molto morbida  e ricettiva, per gli sfondi.


Each image is composed of three separate drawings, one of the window, one for the plant and one for the background. I also used three different papers to render the detail or softness I needed.

la mia piccola nevrosi- My little neurosis

Voglio fare una confessione: da quando ho questo blog sono vittima di una nevrosi, una dipendenza. DEVO controllare ogni giorno il numero dei visitatori, le statistiche, e VOGLIO trovare nuovi commenti. A volte , soprattutto sui commenti, rimango delusa...perché non ce ne sono. E capisco che molti capitano sul blog per caso. (Suppongo sia come avere una pagina FB (che non ho né desidero avere) e non avere nessuno che ti scrive.)
Magari tutti i bloggers hanno questa malattia...si chiama narcisismo?
Sono così contenta quando scopro di avere un nuovo follower! Ma è anche un impegno, per non deluderli/vi.
Posterò un nuovo disegno...quando l'avrò fatto.
Intanto ho in progetto di fare come il mio amico Sandro,  e fare un minisito dei lavori di mia madre , quando era un'artista- e come era brava..-così oggi sono andata da lei e ci siamo riguardate i suoi taccuini di schizzi. Me li sono portati a casa e comincerò a scansionarli domani.
E domani va in stampa il mio lavoro dei biglietti di auguri...speriamo bene!


I want to confess that, since I've had this blog, I developed a kind of neurosis: I HAVE to check every day the statistics on my visitors, and I WANT to find new comments. Sometimes I'm disappointed, specially on the comments, since...they're not there. I understand that many happen to visit my blog per chance.( I suppose I must feel like if I had a FB page and nobody wrote me on it.)
Maybe all blogger have this illness..is it called narcisism?
 I'm so happy when I find I have a new follower!But its also a committment, lest I deceive him/you.
I'll post another drawing...when I have one.
Meanwhile I have a project: I'll do as my friend Sandro did, and I will create a mini-website where I'll show my mother's works of when she was an artist- and a very good one too.
I went to see her and we looked through her sketchbooks, so I took them here and will start scanning them tomorrow.
And tomorrow my greeting card job should go into print...fingers crossed!

Il faggio in autunno- Beech tree in fall

Nel post su "Abruzzo, autunno" c'era un faggio incompiuto. Beh, l'ho finito stasera e postato tra i dipinti di piante- ma siccome Blogger fa un po' come gli pare, non è l'ultimo, sta un po' in mezzo!

In the october post on Abruzzo, auttumn, there was an unfinished sketch of a beech tree. Now I've finished it and pt it in the "Paintings of plants" page. Since Blogger is not very dependable, it decided to place it not at the end, but somewhere in the middle of the scroll...!

Fiorisce la mia orchidea- My orchid is flowering

Ho finito il mio lavoro! lunedi consegno, che bello, ho del tempo libero - e naturalmente il raffreddore- e ho deciso di impiegare la prima ora a ritrarre il bocciolo della phalaenopsis che posseggo da un anno, e che sono riuscita a far rifiorire! Un successo di cui sono molto fiera. Poichè il processo è lentissimo, prevedo niente fiori prima di un altro mese...ma posso sbagliarmi.
Ci saranno altri disegni intermedi con altre tecniche.
Intanto ho ritratto il rametto con i boccioli in due prospettive diverse e la pianta in azzurro, usando le penne a sfera multicolori, che trovo assai divertenti.
A proposito di procedimenti lenti: sto usando le ultime pagine di un grosso blocco iniziato...11 anni fa!

Qui non ci sono morìe di uccelli, per fortuna, ma alla mangiatoia gli ospiti diminuiscono ogni anno. I verdoni per ora sono solo 4- nulla rispetto ai 28 di due anni fa!

I finished my assignment, wow, I have some time to myself- and obviously a bad cold- so I used my first spare hour to portray the phalaenopsis orchis that I've had for a year, and is now flowering again- a great accomplishment! Since it's a very slow process, I doubt there will be any flowers before another month, but I might be wrong.
I will do intermediate studies in different techniques.
This sketch I made with coloured ball-pens,which I find great fun.
About slow processes: this is one of the last pages of a fat sketchbook thast I began...11 yeas ago!


We've had no mystery bird deaths here, luckily, but my feeder gets less visitors every year: I have only 4 greenfinches  nothing in respect of the 28 of two years ago!
